Serge Dumont is Vice Chairman and Chairman Asia Pacific of Omnicom Group Inc., a leading global advertising and marketing communications services company.

Mr. Dumont has been instrumental in extending Omnicom’s footprint in Asia-Pacific, through successful acquisitions and organic growth in the region.

He has also helped Omnicom form strategic partnerships focused on talent development. These include alliances with Tsinghua and Fudan Universities in Beijing and Shanghai, and with the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), which runs Asia’s top MBA program.

A Public Relations pioneer in China

Serge DumontA French citizen, Mr. Dumont began his international career in Taiwan, where he identified an opportunity to provide strategic consultancy to Western companies seeking to enter Mainland China.

At age 25, in 1985 he moved to Beijing and founded Interasia, China’s first joint-venture public relations consultancy. It acquired a roster of Fortune 500 clients and the company became the market leader. In 1993, Mr. Dumont sold the business to Edelman, a global public relations consultancy, which appointed him Group Executive Vice President and President Asia. He served on Edelman’s global board until 1998.

Government advisory work

Mr. Dumont is frequently retained to advise governments and multilateral organisations. Prior to joining Omnicom, he held a number of senior advisory roles.

During the SARS epidemic in 2003, in an unprecedented move at that time, he was appointed by the Beijing Municipal Government and the World Health Organisation to lead a team of crisis management experts. He has also been a Foreign Trade Advisor to the French Government since 2003.
